Funeral Mass of Former president Benigno Aquino the 3rd is happening now before going to Manila memorial park to bury his urn together with his parents, Ninoy and Cory Aquino. 

The mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. to be presided by Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the Aquino family earlier said. The remains of NoyNoy shall be passed through act road and SLEX before going to his last destination. 

 JUST IN, Metro Manila, June 25, 2021: President Rodrigo Duterte signs a proclamation no. 1169 declaring June 24 to July 3 as the period of national mourning for 10 days over the death of former President Noynoy Aquino in a press statement to honour his predecessor.

He died due to renal disease secondary to diabetes according to the Official statement of Aquino Family and Aquino Siblings at the age of 61. 

Most Philippine flags over the country fly at half mast or half staff to symbolize mourning and respect for the late President NoyNoy started on June 24 for 10 days. MalacaƱan palace, CCP complex, Luneta park, Quezon city, Davao city and the like. 

At around 9 a.m., the urn of Aquino arrived at ADMU’s Church of the Gesu. An honor guard carries the urn containing the cremated remains of former President Benigno Aquino III.

The former president’s remains were originally transported to the Heritage Memorial Park at Taguig City from the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.

Military honor guards escorted Aquino’s urn into the church, where mourners will be able to pay their last respects to the former statesman from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Moreover, a prayer vigil will be held at 4 p.m. as well as a Mass at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Based to a statement from ADMU, the public “will be allowed to walk in front of the urn to pay respects and say a prayer for PNoy for a few seconds.”

“Meanwhile, family and close friends will be allowed to stay in a sectioned-off seating area, which can accommodate up to a maximum of 140 people at any given time,” it added.

“Ateneo and the Aquino family ask that visitors cooperate with the campus personnel, to ensure that the public viewing is safe, secure, and respectful,” it further said.

Health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced as required by government regulations during this pandemic, said ADMU.

Temperature checks will be conducted and visitors will be required to wear face masks and face shields at all times and asked to fill out contact tracing forms prior to entering the church.

According to ADMU, children will not be allowed on campus unless they are part of the Aquino and Cojuangco families.

A “true-blue” Atenean, Aquino finished elementary, high school, and college education in the university.

His remains will be interred in the Manila Memorial Park on Saturday, June 26, alongside his parents’ graves.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it will have to make modifications to the ceremonial tribute for the late president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it assured the public that the honors will still be befitting of a former commander-in-chief.

AFP spokesperson MGEN. Edgard Arevalo said traditionally a carriage will transport the remains or casket of a former president to the place of interment, followed by a 21-gun salute and bugle call until the casket is lowered.

On the day of the funeral or inurnment, there will be a 21-gun salute from the time the remains will be moved until they reach the place of interment. Another firing of cannons in military camps will follow.

Arevalo said they have already issued the 21-gun salute directive to military bases. He added they will also consider streaming the ceremony online for the public to watch.

"What is important is for our people to know that we are going to extend all the necessary honors befitting of a former president and commander-in-chief," the AFP spokesman said.

The former president will be laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park on Saturday, June 26, 2021 beside his parents. Public viewing is not allowed at Manila memorial.
