Starting November 2, toll payments in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic – Clark – Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) will be cashless and contactless. In an advisory, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) which operates NLEX and SCTEX, said it will implement 100 per cent radio-frequency identification (RFID) in all its toll lanes. "This is in compliance with the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) mandate to all motorists to install and use RFID in all expressways to control the spread of COVID-19," the advisory read. Motorists can get RFID (radio-frequency identification) stickers for free in the different installation and reloading sites along NLEX and SCTEX. In NLEX, the installation site at Mindanao Toll Plaza Lane NO2 is open 24/7 for class 1 vehicles. The RFID sticker will replace the Easytrip DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) which will be phased out by September 30.
The DOTr earlier released Department Order 2020-012 that requires "motorists using toll expressways to engage in cashless or contactless transactions. "Recently, Easytrip introduced the Stick-It-Yourself RFID, where Class 1 motorists can order it online and have it delivered at the comfort of their homes. The Stick-It-Yourself RFID kit comes with positioning guide, user guide, and card for reloading. It is also available in select NLEX-SCTEX toll booths in Meycauayan SB, Marilao SB, Bocaue Interchange SB Exit, Balagtas, San Fernando NB, Dinalupihan, and Tarlac.
