HERE ARE THE LATEST NEWS FOR TODAY:
This
covers for both prepaid and postpaid, Existing SIM subscribers must register
with their PTE or Public telecommunication Entity within 180 days from the
effectivity of the law, failure to do so shall lead to deactivation. New SIM
will be activated upon registration in any Telco service provider. It is the
same thing with foreign nationals to register their PH SIM but they need to
provide their nationality, passport number and address in the Philippines.
You can buy SIM for others when you
have duly authorized special power of attorney. The principal and proxy should
present certified true copy of valid ID with photo. For minors, parents should
have written consent for them.
Marcos
signed the law, which requires SIM card or newer types of SIM (eSIM)
users to present any official identification before they could use these.
The measure also aims to help law enforcement authorities "track
perpetrators of crimes committed through phones," an earlier press release
from the Office of the Press Secretary showed.
The
President also assured the public that the SIM Card Registration Act puts a
premium on the protection of confidentiality and data privacy rights of
subscribers.
"Any
information in the SIM Card Registration shall be treated as absolutely
confidential unless access to these info has been granted by the written
consent of the subscriber," he said.
He
added that under the new law, existing prepaid SIM card users would also need
to register "within a prescribed period." Failure to do so, he said,
will result in the automatic deactivation of the SIM's services to the
subscriber.
Under
the law, public telecommunications entities (PTEs) — government or private —
and direct sellers are mandated to require users to present valid IDs with a
photo when acquiring SIM.

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has
banned the consumption and sale of shellfish in at least 10 areas in the
country because of the presence of red tide toxins. The shellfish ban covers Roxas
City, Sapian Bay, Panay, President Roxas and Pilar in Capiz; Dumanquillas Bay
in Zamboanga del Sur; Milagros, Masbate; Matarinao in Eastern Samar; Dauis and
Tagbilaran City in Bohol; and Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur.
"All
types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the areas are not
safe for human consumption," BFAR Officer in Charge Demosthenes Escoto
said in an advisory.
Escoto
said that fish, squid, shrimps and crabs can be eaten if they are fresh, washed
thoroughly, and their internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed
before cooking.
Experts
said shellfish are prone to red tide because when they eat the poison-producing
algae, the toxin can accumulate in their tissues.
The
symptoms of paralytic shellfish poisoning are tingling, numbness of the mouth
and extremities, and gastrointestinal discomforts such as vomiting and
diarrhea.
WORLD NEWS:
New Zealand's government on Tuesday proposed taxing the
greenhouse gasses that farm animals make from burping and peeing as part of a
plan to tackle climate change.
The government said the farm levy would be a world first, and that farmers
should be able to recoup the cost by charging more for climate-friendly
products.
But
farmers quickly condemned the plan. Federated Farmers, the industry's main
lobby group, said the plan would “rip the guts out of small town New Zealand”
and see farms replaced with trees.
Federated
Farmers President Andrew Hoggard said farmers had been trying to work with the
government for more than two years on an emissions reduction plan that wouldn't
decrease food production.
“Our
plan was to keep farmers farming," Hoggard said. Instead, he said farmers
would be selling their farms “so fast you won’t even hear the dogs barking on
the back of the ute (pickup truck) as they drive off.”
New
Zealand’s farming industry is vital to its economy. Dairy products, including
those used to make infant formula in China, are the nation’s largest export
earner.
There are just 5 million people in New Zealand but some 10 million beef and dairy cattle and 26 million sheep. ACCORDING THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
