Thank you! The Importance of Sierra Madre Mountain range amidst Tropical Cyclones such as Supertyphoon Karding

 Every September 26, the Philippines observes Save Sierra Madre Day by virtue of Proclamation No. 413.

The Sierra Madre mountain range covers 1.4 million hectares and hosts protected areas. It acts like a shield against tropical cyclones heading for Luzon.

Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines, serving as Luzon'sbuffer and protection against strong typhoons, like #KardingP H.
With climate change, typhoons and other weather events are expected to be more intense, and to cause more losses and damages.
Towards a climate-smart and climate-resilient Philippines, the Climate Change Commission PH urges all to ramp-up nature-based solutions part of climate action: plant and grow more trees, report illegal activities, and advocate for the preservation and conservation of forests .
