Penumbral lunar eclipse on Bonifacio day

29-Nov-2020 | A Partial Penumbral Eclipse of the Moon will occur on November 30, 2020 and will be visible in the Philippines. The eclipse begins when the Moon enters penumbra at 3:32 PM and ends at 7:53 PM (Philippine Standard Time). It will also be observed in N.W. Europe, the Americas, Oceania, most of Asia. It will be seen in east-northeast portion but very low in horizon. It will be most visible using binoculars. Meanwhile, total lunar eclipse shall be on may 26, 2021 according to PAGASA weather bureau.

A penumbra refers to a partially shaded outer region of a shadow that an object casts. A penumbral eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the faint penumbral portion of the earth’s shadow. The lunar surface is not completely shadowed by the earth’s umbra (darkest part of a shadow). Instead, observers can see only the slightest dimming near the lunar limb closest to the umbra. The eclipse may be undetectable unless at least half of the moon enters the penumbra.

Aside from penumbra, we will commemorate birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio tomorrow. It is a regular holiday. He is the Father of Philippine revolution and Tagalog republic. He called Filipinos "Anak ng Supremo" or Supreme Son. Happy birthday!
