The 5th SONA of President Rodrigo Duterte is on-going few hours ago. The program is held at Batasan Pambansa despite of covid pandemic, the President's address should continue. Nation's prayer and Philippine national anthem was done.
The Congress followed physical distancing with face mask inside Batasang Pambansa.
Here are some highlights of the President's nation address:
Pres. Duterte warns NTC to improve internet services before December 2020 or telecom companies will be close.
Online education will continue while we are in this pandemic and other methods of learning such as blended learning and media platforms. He would not allow face to face class while we are in pandemic for he would not take the risk of students.
He commended lawmakers for supporting the administration by passing a law. He discussed the reviving of death penalty using lethal injection for illegal drugs specified under comprehensive dangerous act of 2002. He mentioned what happened in our country, they (drug syndicates from other countries and locals) messed up our country.
Covid 19 will not be the last pandemic. Health department will expand their services to protect lives, he said.
He wants lawmakers to pass a law for retiring individuals to improve pensions as unified system.
Duterte asks Congress to pass another set of Bayanihan law to speed up the recoveries for Corona virus disease
He wants policemen to have more decent lives when he computed their few salaries.
We must act before another major disaster shall devastate our country. He told.
The responsible extraction of natural resources should be done accordingly. For the rest of his term, he wants the improvements of protecting the environment. He mentioned.
The boracay island authority is doing fine. We must utilize the coconut living for agriculture.
The coconut farmers trust fund should be implemented. Let's help our coconut farmers, the value is billion, he said. The agricultural package will help us for online transaction and business. He added.
China is claiming south China sea and Philippines is also claiming the west philippine sea. China is in possession. He cannot afford to have war but only diplomatic endeavor. He discussed.
The President assured the public that the country shall remain peaceful as long as he is still the leader. Crime will never be risen, based on what he said.
We should have solidarity and let's help each other. This is the time to have Unity. Together, we shall overcome.
He assured the overseas Filipino workers or OFW that government is here to help in times of covid pandemic.
Oligarchy is not bad but some oligarchy should end. Senator Franklin Drilon said, he did not support oligarchy but he supports press freedom only.
